Hello Middleton Jazz Orchestra families,

As I hope you are aware, your students will be performing at UW Jazzfest on December 2nd, this Saturday! Your students have been working incredibly hard and rehearsing really well over the last couple of rehearsals.

The day includes clinics on improvisation, sectionals, and full ensemble clinics with esteemed jazz artists from Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison areas. Students were given a link to the schedule last night which I will also provide HERE for your convenience. Only reminders on their end is that the start of the event is at 10:30am, they need to sign and submit the transportation waiver, and concert attire will be all black.

The entire event culminates in a concert starting at 3pm including Memorial High School, Middleton, Waunakee, and UW-Madison. Concert admission will be free to all. For friends and families who are unable to attend the concert in person, it will also be live-streamed on the Mead Witter School of Music’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MeadWitterSchoolofMusic . Please note that the live-stream will be available for the rest of the day, but due to copyright restrictions, it will not be available after Saturday, Dec. 2.

As a note, we will also be playing these works again in January at our usual jazz concert if you are unable to attend or watch.

Jazz families,

All four jazz bands and sports and activities will have yearbook photos tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov.8th). Pictures will occur at 2:00 PM in the PAC. A "Pass" for students to be excused from class at 1:50 is attached; if your students are in more than one activity, they will have multiple passes (and pictures) throughout the day. Below are some notes from our yearbook team.

Thanks

Band Staff

  • When they get to the PAC, they will be directed to a table to find their nametag.

  • We will have blank nametags available if needed.

  • They should grab their nametag and take a seat to wait for further instructions.

  • A student ambassador will give them instructions before going on to the stage.

  • When it is time to go on stage, students will quickly line up on the risers; we will have students there to help them get organized.

  • Once in their lines, we will ask them to pass their nametag down the line; we will start from the far right-hand person in the row and ask each student to pass the pile to the left, putting their nametag on the bottom of the pile. This should give us the names in the correct order to be typed.

  • We will have students collect the piles of names and get them to a typer who will start working on the lists right then.

  • Once the photo is done, students will be asked to go back to class unless they are in the next photo.
