UW-Madison Blue Note Ensemble and MJJ Present a Concert and Jam with Herbie Hancock's Music This workshop/jam will be Tuesday, March 8, 6-9 PM at Arts + Lit Lab This month, our House Band will be the UW-Madison Blue Note Ensemble, Charlie Palm, trumpet; Kahil Droubi, trombone; Brenden Mortensen, guitar; Griffin Beronio, piano; Andy Jones, bass; and Ian Kenney, drums. These superb musicians will treat us to a miniconcert of Herbie Hancock music, followed by a jam to the following tunes: Dolphin Dance Tell Me A Bedtime Story Pinocchio One Finger Snap Little One Survival of the Fittest Cantaloupe Island watermelon man Maiden Voyage Fire Water If you want to practice some of these numbers, music for Dolphin Dance, Little One & Survival of the Fittest may be found on our Facebook page. Our next 4th Thursday jam will be Thursday, March 24, 6-9 PM. The House Band will play a few numbers, followed or joined by musicians who want to sit in. The House Band for that date will be Johannes Wallmann, keys; Mat Rodgers, bass; John Lombardo, percussion; and Sally deBroux, vocals. All 4th Thursday Jams will be at COPA, 2841 Index Road, Fitchburg, WI . (Map) Musicians, friends and interested jazz aficionados are invited. There is no cover charge for this excellent music, but free will donations are encouraged. Please BYO food and drink, as there is no food service available. Please check the excellent new Madison Jazz Calendar website, Finally, Dane County's mask mandate ended Tuesday, March 1. It may still be wise to wear a mask indoors in a relatively small area, but it is no longer a requirement. MJJ only requests that, if you feel ill, please wait until you are well again and join us then.
