Hello orchestra families and students,
We are pleased to announce the continuation this year of one fine annual tradition - the MHS band and orchestra fruit sale! For decades, this event has been our primary fundraiser and a very popular one. (After all, we are not a scurvy band...) We have found it easy to sell a product that people actually want and already buy regularly.
The sale runs from 11/1 to 11/22 and will be online only . All fruit will arrive before Christmas.
Students can still earn money for their band student travel/activity account by selling fruit. To do so, fill out this google form (10/23/20: link removed since the deadline passed) as soon as possible - preferably no later than tomorrow, October 20th . This will place your name on a drop-down list so that people making their online purchases can credit you.
Under the circumstances, there will be no delivery day this year at the high school. We are using a different vendor who is able to ship the fruit directly to our customers, anywhere in the continental US. This means that out-of-state family members can buy fruit this year!
As always, your participation is not required, but it is strongly encouraged. If everyone sold/bought even a few boxes of fruit, it would fund all programming for the year. (And we do of course still hope for some exciting programming this year!)
We are starting up Philomusica over the next few weeks and there are some exciting things going on:
1) Philo will be working with Mark Wood again this year! We will be preparing 1 tune for him (no memorization!) over the next few months and then working with him in January over Zoom. At the end of that month, Philo Pholks will record themselves performing the 1 tune and submit it to Mr. Wood's staff, who will combine them all and create a virtual ensemble video for us all to enjoy.
2) We are working on a project to help 3 of our elementary schools continue the WINTER TEA in some fashion. This will include making recordings of some of our tunes IN PERSON TOGETHER IN THE SAME ROOM! Philo will start to meet in person in cohorts of 10 (for now) and maybe a few more as we get going.
For now, Philo will meet like this:
If we are working over Zoom = THURSDAY 2-3pm or TUESDAY 8:15-8:45 (depends on the week)
If we are In Person = THURSDAY 3-4pm (location will either be the Orch Room or the Courtyard) starting 10/29 !
In order for us to meet in person, I need to build our roster quickly. Please go to THIS GOOGLE FORM (10/23/20: link removed since the deadline passed) right away to let me know of your interest in Philo. You can take part in Philo either or both ways, so please phind time to phil out this phorm phast!

Hola familias y estudiantes de la orquesta,
Nos complace anunciar la continuación este año de una excelente tradición anual: ¡la venta de frutas para bandas y orquestas de MHS! Durante décadas, este evento ha sido nuestro principal evento de recaudación de fondos y uno muy popular. (Después de todo, no somos una banda de escorbuto ...) Nos ha resultado fácil vender un producto que la gente realmente quiere y que ya compra con regularidad.
La venta se extiende desde el 1 de noviembre hasta el 22 de noviembre y estará disponible únicamente en línea. Toda la fruta llegará antes de Navidad.
Los estudiantes aún pueden ganar dinero para su cuenta de actividades / viajes de estudiantes de banda vendiendo frutas. Para hacerlo, complete este formulario de Google lo antes posible, preferiblemente a más tardar mañana, 20 de octubre. Esto colocará su nombre en una lista desplegable para que las personas que realicen sus compras en línea puedan acreditarlo.
Dadas las circunstancias, este año no habrá día de entrega en la escuela secundaria. Vamos a poner en marcha Philomusica en las próximas semanas y están sucediendo algunas cosas interesantes:
1) ¡Philo volverá a trabajar con Mark Wood este año! Estaremos preparando 1 melodía para él (¡sin memorización!) Durante los próximos meses y luego trabajaremos con él en enero en Zoom. Philo comenzará a encontrarse en persona en grupos de 10 (por ahora) y tal vez algunos más a medida que avancemos.
